OUR STORY
FROM OUR FOUNDER TO OUR COMMUNITY
From responding to crises to nurturing education, wellness, and cultural pride, our story is one of hope taking root and communities growing stronger together.
OUR ROOTS : BORN FROM LOVE
Sow A Seed was born in 2004 from a place of deep love, responsibility, and connection.
As Haitian American women, we could not look away from the growing crisis in our homeland. The natural disasters, the instability, the poverty threatening the most vulnerable, especially our children.
We knew we had to do something. So we gathered, we organized, and we acted with nothing more than heart, faith, and a determination to serve.
THE EARLY DAYS: LOVE IN ACTION
What began as a mission to bring emergency aid, clean water, food, and shelter to a handful of orphanages quickly expanded beyond anything we imagined.
In time, we reached more than 250 orphanages across Haiti, meeting urgent needs with compassion and care.
Our work then extended to Jamaica and other Caribbean communities, guided by one belief: every child and every family deserves dignity and support.
THE SHIFT: FROM RELIEF TO RENEWAL
As we walked alongside communities, we realized that while relief saves lives, true transformation comes from investing in people, their healing, their potential, and their future.
Our mission evolved.
We began rebuilding schools, supporting families, and, most importantly, listening deeply to what communities truly needed to thrive.
Today in Haiti, we continue to serve on the front lines. We train teachers, engage youth in civic leadership, and support families displaced by gang violence. We distribute essentials and rebuild systems not for communities, but with them, empowering local voices to lead lasting change.
THE EXPANSION: HEALING BEYOND SURVIVAL
As our mission grew, so did our understanding of what healing truly means.
We witnessed the quiet wounds left by trauma, the loss of culture, the silence around mental health, and the yearning of children to be seen, heard, and connected to their roots.
So we expanded our work to include wellness, the arts, environmental education, and the creation of healing spaces.
We planted gardens, led reforestation efforts, built eco-playgrounds, organized beach cleanups, and launched art therapy workshops where children and families could reconnect with themselves, with nature, with culture, and with one another.
THE FUTURE: PLANTING SEEDS OF BELONGING
Now, as we deepen our work in South Florida and expand globally, our dream is to create permanent healing hubs; spaces that bring tog
ether art, wellness, skill-building, cultural celebration, and emergency support under one roof.
These will be places where children, families, and elders across the diaspora and around the world can find restoration, resources, and a true sense of belonging.
Sow A Seed has never just been an organization. It is a living, breathing movement rooted in our values: community, compassion, culture, and collective growth.
From the orphanages of Haiti to the neighborhoods of South Florida to communities across the world, we carry the same vision to plant seeds of hope that will blossom for generations to come.
And this story is only just beginning.
